Clean Slate delivers a number of Quids in! Money Guidance™ programmes to help people in financial hardship to improve their financial wellbeing and resilience. They are generally split into four areas of activity, although they often overlap within a service:
Financial hardship and poverty limits the prospects, life expectancy, and practical options available to individuals and families. Our meaningful assault on poverty measurably impacts the prospects and quality of life of people who are struggling with the cost of living. By putting them in control, the outcomes are sustained long beyond the duration of the support.
- Quids in! information services
- One-to-one money coaching
- Training and community learning events on money skills and finding work
- Paid work experience

Money Coaching
We help over 1,500 people a year through a Money Health-Check assessment to establish the resources, actions, habits and attitudes they have in place. From there, we build a plan for putting the rest in place. The process immediately establishes a relationship of trust through active listening driven by asking questions and responding with a personalised list of options, demonstrating the client has been heard. Clean Slate money coaches are skilled at presenting sometimes complex information in simple language, uncovering opportunities to increase their income and reduce their expenditure, deal with debt and build a savings buffer to prevent future crises. The process lends itself to robust data capture; at the start, we benchmark their financial resilience using our specialist Money Health-Check wellbeing indicators; at the end, we record their distance travelled, the financial gains they have achieved, and the difference this has made to their lives – their health, employment prospects, housing security, and family life in general.
Levelling the Playing Field
In very practical terms, tackling financial problems means improved food security and reduced anxiety with immediate effect. Quick wins, like identifying and access unclaimed benefits and switching to cheaper utilities and broadband, kickstart the process and inspire hope among clients. Participants are then freed up to explore options like addressing debt, starting a savings plan, and clearing the barriers to work (or better work). Experiencing positive outcomes, immediately measurable in financial terms, clients take control of longer-term opportunities to improve all aspects of their lives from health and employment to home life.
