Alongside our coaching and information services, Clean Slate delivers training programmes that build confidence and skills within the communities we serve. Learning is through facilitated conversations, not taught from the front, and is rooted in lived experience and practical ideas. We focus on equipping people not only with knowledge, but with the ability to apply it, whether that means managing money more effectively, moving closer to employment, or supporting others as part of a Clean Slate traineeship.
- Traineeship: ELE-Ments (or Elements)
ELE-Ments is our traineeship programme for individuals who have engaged with Clean Slate services and are ready to take the next step. Participants draw on their own lived experience of financial hardship to support others who are facing similar challenges. Through structured and accredited training and paid work experience, they develop the skills, confidence, and professionalism needed to contribute meaningfully in a support role. The programme provides a pathway into employment, while strengthening our ability to deliver services that are grounded in empathy, trust, and real-world understanding.
- Money Skills: 3 Bs
Our 3 Bs community events bring people together to explore ways of managing the cost of living. These sessions create a safe, informal space where participants can share ideas, learn from one another, and discover simple actions to improve their financial wellbeing. Topics include budgeting, reducing bills, accessing support, and building financial resilience. By combining practical guidance with peer discussion, the 3 Bs help individuals feel more confident, informed, and in control. - Employment: 7 Signs
Our 7 Signs sessions support people who are out of work to approach job searching in a new way. Rather than focusing solely on applications, these sessions help participants build confidence, recognise their strengths, and develop a positive mindset. They explore goal setting, communication, and how to present themselves to employers as capable and motivated candidates. The programme encourages a shift in perspective, from barriers to opportunities.
Building Skills and Confidence
Our training is designed to meet people at different stages of their journey. For some, it provides a first step towards regaining control and rebuilding confidence, both critical to building financial resilience. For others, it directly offers progression. They develop skills, recognise strengths, and open up pathways into volunteering, employment, or further learning. We place particular emphasis on peer support and shared experience. Participants benefit from learning alongside others who understand the challenges they face, helping to create a sense of belonging and mutual encouragement.
A distinctive feature of our training is the value we place on lived experience. We believe that people who successfully navigated financial hardship bring unique insight, credibility, and empathy to supporting others. Our programmes create opportunities for individuals to use that experience constructively. They develop skills, contribute to their communities, and, in some cases, progress into paid roles within Clean Slate or beyond. Indeed, the majority of our service delivery team is made of former trainees.
