Get ahead

Discover the benefits of being confident online

Being online: Why it matters

According to research from Lloyds, 11 million people lack digital skills for everyday life, while the most digitally engaged pay £228 less on their bills each year.

And now things like Universal Credit and Healthy Start are only available online. You get the idea. We want you to stay one step ahead so you can be sure you are getting all you are entitled to.

We can help you feel more confident online, access equipment and get hold of free data and sim cards. Find out more below.

Online tools

Many people don't feel confident about the internet, but they're happy using Facebook or WhatsApp. The skills required are the same, the rest is just a fear of the unknown. The Quids in! website can walk you through the tools available online. Some of them are on the website itself. For example...

Together, people in the UK are missing out on £24 billion of unclaimed benefits. (That's an average £444.44 per adult across the country!) Head over to the Quids in! benefits calculator to find out. Maybe you could also use a budget planner to see if you can balance your finances each month. Or, for a full personal review, why not try our Future-Proof Finance Quiz?

Free skills training

If it’s time for a bit of training and structured support, we know where to direct you to. Our partners at LearnMyWay, for example, have a range of online courses to walk you through a range of things. If you’re local to one of our Quids In Centres, drop in and take a course and we can help if you get stuck.

Good Things Foundation runs a national network of online centres (like ours), where you'll find help getting online.

National Databank

The National Databank is providing free data to 500,000 people in need via Good Things Foundation’s network of community partners, in partnership with Virgin Media O2, Vodafone and Three. It's a bit like a food bank, but for internet connectivity. Clean Slate Support Workers are able to give out free sim cards and internet data to eligible people at our Bath and London Quids In Centres.

Social Tariffs

Around 1.1 million households are struggling to afford their home broadband according to Ofcom while 97% of eligible low-income households have yet to take advantage of specially-discounted superfast broadband deals. These tariffs could save you up to £144 a year compared to a standard tariff.

Social tariffs are cheaper broadband and phone packages for people claiming Universal Credit, Pension Credit and some other benefits. Some providers call them 'essential' or 'basic' broadband.

Just remember, you can’t break the internet

People build their skills and confidence using a computer and the internet when they ‘learn by doing’. To start, we focus on what you want to achieve. Want to see how to reduce your spending or bring in more money? We've got a an online quiz!

Want to find work? We can help you explore the advice the internet provides, or set up an email address or use a ‘job search’ tool. Take the Job Readiness Quiz.

Most of the skills you’d need to apply for work or make full use of the internet can be grown just using Facebook. If that’s where you want to start, let’s do that. Contact us to find out more.
