Helping low-income households become more than better off

Four Pillars Supporting Financial Resilience

Clean Slate’s Quids in! Money Guidance programme helps people on low incomes become ‘more than better off’. They organise their finances, find work (or better work), and get online. The end goal is to reach their potential for a better life, improved wellbeing and more control. Four pillars support this:
  • Information service
  • One-to-one coaching
  • Training
  • Sector development
Underpinning these is our pledge to the parts of our community where we work:
We see you. We hear you. We are you.

Hear from our clients...

"Managing money is so important. They're really not teaching the everyday stuff at school. Algebra is all very well but learning how to budget and teaching that from a young age could make such a difference, because not everybody's parents are that way inclined." Clare

"Although it's not nice for other people to be in that situation, sometimes the feeling that you're not alone is huge." Debbie
"Malieka helped me with budgeting, she put me in touch with Business Debtline. I don't think I'd be too far off stating that she helped me feel safe or at a minimum it's okay to breathe again." Harry* (Name changed)

Cost of Living Crisis

The headlines are scary, but there is help available
Gas, electricity, food and many other essentials have gone up in price in ways we have never seen before. It can feel overwhelming and the temptation is to bury our heads in the sand until it's all over. But we would always say, "Get ahead and get in control now, before the wheels come off."

Quids In Centres

You can get help at one of our Quids In Centres. The centres are usually made up of local drop-in services in places like libraries, cafes and community hubs, as well as one-to-one help online and over the phone.

We run relaxed and friendly events to help you take control of your money, discover your spark and find out how you could earn more.

Quids in! Money Guidance

Quids in! magazine cover featuring Marc Maciver, otherwise known as SliderCuts
Quids in! is our money guidance project - a free service for anyone who wants to stretch and grow their budget. It's an information service, which started just as a magazine, uncovering the tips and tricks no-one taught us at school. No jargon, just straight-talking advice:
  • A website full of advice and guidance
  • 'Readers Club' emails with the kind of news that people like us always seem to miss out on... to our cost
  • Interactive tools, like our Money Health-Check and Job Readiness Quiz
  • Guides to keeping the family fed, bills under control and navigating the benefits system

We see you, we hear you, we are you

In April 2022, Clean Slate and Quids in! staff got together for our first in-person meeting since the pandemic. On that day, we made this promise to the people we help:

We see you. We hear you. We are you.
