Becoming an Elements Host
We would love to hear from potential host organisations from across the care and support sectors who would like to work with us to 'design in' lived experience. The benefits can include closer links to communities, improved understanding of target beneficiaries' needs, and a recruitment pipeline of future advisors. ELE-Ments, (or Elements), is short for 'Experts with Lived Experience supported by Mentorship' and is designed to offer a new way into work, with paid experience, for people on low incomes.
At Clean Slate, we have offered Peer Worker placements to people who have used our services since we launched in 2006. We have found this works really well for us - both in terms of a new pool of talent to recruit from and also because clients tell us they appreciate talking to people who understand what they are going through.
Right now, there is a recruitment crisis across the care and support sectors. We know there are people out there who have the ‘elements’ to thrive in these sectors because they have lived experience: They know what it is like to have needed support, and to struggle to make ends meet. They are caring and capable people but they might need some help to develop their confidence and turn their life skills into professional experience an employer will value.

How it works
Through our Money Guidance services and job-readiness events, Clean Slate will find people who we think have the personal skills and qualities to work for you. If you agree with our candidate, we will provide all the initial onboarding and provide professional standards training (in-house).
The host organisation will need to offer a 12 week placement, with a minimum half a day's paid work per week, plus any accredited role-related training required. After the placement, you may wish to offer further training or a permanent position to the Peer Worker, otherwise Clean Slate will support the person to look for work with their newly acquired skills.
You can find out more about the Elements programme here, where you can also see a short video about how it all works.
If you'd like to become a host, or if you have any questions, do get in touch with us here.
