How We’ll Work Together… Our Terms and Conditions
Clean Slate is all about helping you become better off. We help people with tips on managing their money better, finding work (or better-paid work) and making more use of the internet. We are not-for-profit and we’re funded by government and grant-making bodies. We also make money through enterprise, mostly selling Quids In-branded money guides to organisations who share them with the people they work with.
Below we outline how we work. You might want support or training from us, or be interested in joining as one of our Peer Workers. Our Terms and Conditions are the rules we all have to follow.

OUR CODE OF PRACTICE
Our Code of Practice applies to people using our service for support or training, as well as to people who work for us. It is only a reminder of what every employer (and support or training agency) expects. If you break this agreement you could be asked to leave. If you are working for us, you may not be paid and we may have to deduct losses caused by your conduct from wages.
WHO TO TELL AND WHAT TO THEM (CONFIDENTIALITY)
However, if relevant to helping you access training, welfare or employment, or to support you with issues you have asked for help with, we will ask if we can share information with your named support worker.
COMPLAINTS
If you wish to raise a complaint, please refer to our Complaints Policy and Procedure, which you can see here.

TO SIGN UP WITH CLEAN SLATE
- Provide us with as many details as possible on Sign Up form
- Give us your best contact details (and keep them up-to-date) so we can keep in touch
IF YOU WANT TO WORK FOR US
- Like for any employer, you’ll need to prove you are a UK citizen or eligible to work in the UK. A list of the paperwork we need to see is available (a passport or driving licence is easiest but it’s fine if you don’t have one). We can help with this – you can’t work anywhere without it
- Provide a P45 from a previous employer or fill in a P46 so you won’t have to pay too much tax
- Give us your bank account details. If you don’t have one, set up a bank account or an account with the Credit Union
- Get started on our 7 Signs or 3 Bs programme. It will help you be clear about what you want to achieve, how to stretch your budget and start growing your earnings. It will also help you with your own job search
- Let us know what hours you want to work. You will be notified of the shifts we need you for
- Be reliable. Be wherever you agree to be, including at training sessions, for paid work or at meetings to get you registered and all the paperwork sorted out. Naturally, the most reliable people are at the top of our list for work
- Abide by the Code of Practice (see below)
- If you won’t be turning up or you’re going to be late, call the person who is expecting you. If you are late or a ‘no show’, your place may be taken by someone else and it will make it less likely we can find you paid work in future. If you don’t know who your contact is, call your local office (see here)
- If you’re doing paid work for us, remember our customers pay by the hour, so you will need to work to deadlines. If you don’t, Clean Slate won’t make enough to cover the cost of your hours
- There will be supervision and quality checks on everyone’s work. This is not an issue of trust between you and us but is a guarantee we offer to customers, that makes us better than our competitors
- If you are placed with an employer for work, respect their relationship with Clean Slate. If you have a problem with them, contact your Clean Slate contact and we’ll try to sort it out
OUR CODE OF PRACTICE
Our Code of Practice applies to people using our service for support or training, as well as to people who work for us. It is only a reminder of what every employer (and support or training agency) expects. If you break this agreement you could be asked to leave. If you are working for us, you may not be paid and we may have to deduct losses caused by your conduct from wages.
- Arrive in good time as agreed. You could be replaced without pay, or miss out on the support or training you wanted
- Be kind: Be approachable to others and help show positive people work with Clean Slate
- Do not obstruct the public or other people sharing the space you are working in
- Avoid arguments or conflicts with anyone – report problems to a supervisor or session leader, if you need to
- Be tolerant – Clean Slate gives people a chance, we expect you to do the same. Offensive comments (including sexist, racist, homophobic or ageist ones) or bullying are not acceptable
- Do nothing that causes complaint or brings Clean Slate into disrepute. Do not engage in any criminal activity as, for the sake of all trainees and Temp Workers, we may have to report it to the police
- Do not consume alcohol or take illegal drugs. If on prescription drugs, tell your supervisor or session leader in confidence. You must not appear to be under the influence and must be lucid and capable of working safely and responsibly
- If you are approached, threatened or feel insecure tell your supervisor, session leader or a Clean Slate member of staff. They will take appropriate action
- If working, do not leave your place of work unless you have told your Supervisor or Team Leader
- Remember you are on-site to learn or work or both, do not get distracted or caught up chatting
- If handling cash, take extra care and do not give credit to anyone. Any loss may be deducted from your wages
- Do everything you have been asked to do as you have been asked to do it. Tell your Supervisor, or a Clean Slate manager, as soon as any problems arise
WHO TO TELL AND WHAT TO THEM (CONFIDENTIALITY)
- All information kept about you, on paper and electronically, is secure. You can see our Privacy Policy at any time
- Legally, you must declare any earnings to HMRC and, if you are claiming benefits, to the DWP
- As an employer, we must disclose how much is paid to anyone working for us. This goes to HMRC and DWP
- We will provide you with general information about benefits but it is as guidance and does not constitute advice. For up to date and personally tailored advice Clean Slate advises that you check your eligibility for benefits and access benefits advice from a source such as your local Citizens Advice or online with Turn2us
- By law we may be forced to share information about you and your personal circumstances if we believe you or someone else may be at risk, especially if a child is involved or if we or you are involved in a criminal investigation relating to a serious offence
However, if relevant to helping you access training, welfare or employment, or to support you with issues you have asked for help with, we will ask if we can share information with your named support worker.
